Chinese Fodder

July 5th, 2006 by caryhuang

I guess I got really bored and came up with these.  If you don’t speak Chinese, these will mean NOTHING to you…

  1. What do you call a cow standing by himself?  (Ah-Long)
  2. What do you call a girl who is very cold? (Helen)
  3. Is it good to have "Should Live" on your tombstone?
  4. Busy dog tastes good!
  5. Stupid guy named Ben?
  6. If he’s afraid to die, then he should not eat Tapas.

Hearse Castle

Imgp5732_2 Long trip to Central Coast for Wine Tasting and Hearst Castle

Is a long trip out of town spent driving and running all over the place really considered a vacation???  I think I need a vacation from the vacation I just took.  What started out as a small group of wine-nuts on the prowl for a sideways-esque weekend experience turned into the Boston marathon.  OK, maybe it really wasn’t that bad.  Though trying to get everyone to arrive and depart a winery is akin to herding cats.  At least there was pleasant company to keep me amused in the car.  SomeImgp5536 where in between all the driving, $8 parking, and 100+ degree weather, we got to taste wines and take the hearse (oops, I mean HEARST) castle tour.Img_5116Img_0122 Imgp5552 Img_5141

Cool Pic

June 28th, 2006 by caryhuang

Those of you who know me have seen some of the whacky pictures I’ve taken.  Occasionally a miracle reveals itself and I actually take something that is decent.

Imgp3865The first one is of an unknown family walking through the atrium at the Getty Museum.  I love the light filtering through the screens and the shadows drawn out by the afternoon sun.

Imgp5636The second one was taken at Hermosa Beach in California.  The sun was setting and I happen to catch the sun setting just perfectly.  I wish the picture could capture the cooling breeze coming off the ocean.

So this is a section dedicated to my friend Ai.  Such a name is undoubtedly worthy of its own section in my Blog.  Let’s see, first of all, let me throw some pictures to give you an idea of who this is…

More Crazy Travel

June 28th, 2006 by caryhuang

Fsnaz Well, it’s another marathon of traveling again.  I went to Denver, Phoenix, and will be soon returning from Atlanta.  It’s quite a learning experience to visit these Fox regional broadcasting sites.  I got to watch them tape some of the sports shows and learned a lot about how our IT Operations can impact the Broadcast Operations.  And the importance of turning off cell phones which you’re standing behind a nervous TV Director.

FogoOf course all this traveling wouldn’t be complete with some really good Barbeque from Atlanta — Brazilian style.  I finally got to have some Guarana beverage…totally craving it.  Antarcticaglass

Snow to Sun

February 13th, 2006 by caryhuang

Imgp5314_1What a busy week.  I went to New York for work and barely made it back to Los Angeles in time to avoid the big east coast blizzard.  Does anyone know what a "Noreaster" is?  I thought it had something to do with Easter, but those east coast people aren’t telling me.  All I know is that I crammed myself between two married people flirting with each other for 5 hours non-stop (they are married to someone else).  Now THAT’S an idea for a reality TV show….airplane confessions.

Imgp5355 Anyway, I landed in LA and drove straight to Palm Springs with Dean.  We met up with Kim and her friends for a night of dinner and gambling at the Morongo Casino in the desert.  Then we went to this boutique lounge located in the middle of nowhere.  Supposedly Brad and Jennifer were spotted there before Angelina, the homewrecker, messed them up.  OK, maybe I’m just jealous.

Imgp51251 Most people would think that was a busy weekend…but it was only Sunday and the day was not over!  I went to the Staples Center to watch the L.A. Clippers play.  We had terrific seats!

I was so tired when I got home I fell asleep on the bed with the remote under my face….that created an interesting pattern.

Anyway, I uploaded pictures on my web site (caryhuang.com)

Reflections

Imgp5008Cool Sunset View from the 17th Floor of the Nakitomi Plaza (remember from Diehard?)

All day long, I sit in my office and listen to the droning of the news.  Blaring out of the televison behind me is my daily dosage of Fox News.  Usually the repeating news serves only to wash out the noise eminating from outside my office.  On this day, a phrase caught my ear:

"Most people’s biggest problem is that they think they have a lot of problems"

As I drove through the putrid streets of east downtown LA, I reflect on what I think may be problems I have.  Compared to the homeless sleeping in the rows of tents, do I really have anything to complain?  They’re stacked on the streets like what I can only describe as a temporary shanty town; torn down in the morning before the stores open and resurrected after sunset.

The news channel is the ultimate fix for reality TV junkies.

HOT POT

December 27th, 2005 by caryhuang

There’s something so inviting about a "hot pot" meal.  You just can’t go wrong with that.  Any occasion is good for hot pot; except when you are wearing white.  That Chinese barbeque sauce does not come out of a white shirt easy.  It take real talent to ruin a hot pot meal.  Any idiot can make it happen.  Burp.  Man, that MSG is getting to me….

2am Wake Up

December 24th, 2005 by caryhuang

So I woke up at 2am and can’t seem to sleep.  Ate an orange and had a revelation: What if they offered free internet on public transportation?  Free wireless internet on light/heavy rail and buses — wouldn’t that inspire a lot of people to use public transportation more for going to/from work?  You can offset the cost of the free service by putting advertising billboards inside the bus/train.  Like those web-based ads at supermarket checkout lines.  People would be able to get work done in the morning.  I know I spend at least 2 hours a day just answering/creating emails — being able to leverage my commute in the morning to get a head start on that would be very beneficial.

Overheard…

Overheard in a restaurant.  Trust is like virginity — once you lose it, it’s gone.
